Abstract
875,343. Furnace walls. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH, MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. March 29, 1960 [March 31, 1959], No. 11044/60. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). In a method of constructing furnace walls, adjacent metal panels 7, 8, Fig. 2, are secured to the flat surfaces of a framework of sectional steel members 5, 6 which lies parallel to the panel, e.g. by clamps 9 having lateral recesses fitting over the edges of the panels with an interposed part 10 which is secured by a weld to the framework, a refractory layer 17, Fig. 5, being applied thereafter to the panels. The layer is applied to the plates by temporary formers 18, 19, the former 19 ensuring a division between the linings on adjacent panels to allow for expansion. Alternatively, the panels may be bolted or riveted to the framework.
