Abstract
875,265. Combustion chambers. BOTTGER. J. April 30, 1958 [May 7, 1957], No. 13744/58. Class 7(3). [Also in Group XXVI] The mouth of a combustion chamber formed in a piston is formed by two offset semicircles, the base of the chamber being formed as a surface of revolution about the piston axis 5. The side wall of the chamber forms with the piston crown an acute angle α, Fig. 1, at the end 3 of each semicircle nearer the axis 5 and an obtuse angle α<SP>1</SP> at the end 31 further from axis 5. The fuel injector 6, Fig. 4, injects a main jet A into the chamber and an ignition jet B partly over the crown of the piston. A jet of oil is sprayed on to cooling fins 10 on the underside of the piston.
