Abstract

874,126. Cathode-ray tube circuits. BUSH & RANK CINTEL Ltd. Sept. 24, 1959 [Sept. 26, 1958], No. 30804/58. Class 40(7) A circuit for preventing burning of a cathoderay tube screen due to the occurrence of beam current on switching off the equipment comprises at least one diode, shunted by a resistor, connected between a source of potential and the cathode, and a capacitor returning the cathode to a source of constant potential, it being so arranged that the time constant of this circuitry greatly exceeds that of the grid circuitry. The supply 6 feeds both the anode voltage source 2 and the time-base unit 7. The cathode of the tube has associated with it circuitry as shown or, in order that the high insulation capacitor 11 may be replaced by an electrolytic capacitor, two diodes in series are substituted for diode 10 and their common junction taken to earth through the electrolytic capacitor. The time constant of the grid circuit being much less than that of the cathode circuit, at switch-off the grid falls rapidly to earth potential whereas the cathode potential falls only slowly so that the electron beam is immediately cut off.
