An electric battery lamp combined with a cigarette lighter comprises a tubular metal casing 10, a metal reflector 18 insulated from the casing and connected to a socket for a bulb 20, a metal pocket 28 on the side of the casing containing a switch element 38 electrically connected to the pocket and slidable thereon by means of a knob 30, an electric resistance element 32 mounted on an insulating support on the pocket and accessible through an aperture 50 therein, one end of the element 32 being connected to a metal plate 44 nipped between the base contact of the bulb 20 and the centre pole of the battery and the other being connected to a conductor strip 36 engageable by the switch element 38 when this is moved in one direction, a conductor strip 42 extending along the casing with one end in contact with the reflector 18 and the other extending into the pocket 28 for engagement with the switch element 38 when this is moved in the opposite direction and means at the base of the casing for making contact with the battery and urging the centre pole thereof into contact with the plate 44. A shield 46 may be carried by the switch element 38 to uncover the aperture 50 when the resistance element is energized. In a modification, the strips 36, 42 are so arranged that the circuits of the lamp and resistance are closed by movements of the switch element in the reverse direction from those in the form shown.
