Abstract

872,183. Valve gears. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. July 6, 1959 [July 7, 1958], No. 23136/59. Addition to 829,737. Class 7(6). The subject-matter comprises a valve rocker similar to that of the parent Specification but the conditions of operation are defined for rotation of the rocker arm in the first and fourth quadrants of a co-ordinate system having the centre of oscillation of the rocker arm as origin and the ordinate parallel with the axis of the valve stem. The rotation in the first quadrant produces a clearance in the valve gear and that in the fourth quadrant a lengthening of the valve gear and the conditions are so arranged that over a complete cycle of operation in both quadrants there is a nett clearance which is taken up by rotation of the eccentric in the rocker arm by its spring. In a modification, Fig. 16, the eccentric operating spring 116 acts upon an extension arm 127 of the eccentric and in Fig. 18 the recess 21 in the rocker in which the eccentric is seated has a smaller radius of curvature than the part 23 of the eccentric to produce live contact between the parts 21, 23.
