Abstract
871,795. Photo-electric control systems. TELOMEX Ltd. Dec. 18, 1959 [Jan. 20, 1959], No. 2111/59. Class 40(3) [Also in Group XVIII] In a weighing machine in which the invention resides in the nature of the weighbeam system (see Group XVIII) a beam of light may be made to pass through an aperture movable with the beam and so constructed that the illumination of a fixed photo-cell varies in accordance with the beam position, the cell output being made to control the current in a coil 13 carried by the beam and acting upon a fixed magnet. The photo-cell is a photo-transistor 24 connected as shown in series with a temperature-compensating photo-transistor 25. The cell signal, amplified by transistors 26, 21 is applied to one arm of a bridge comprising the resistors 15, 16, 17, 18, the bridge output being applied to a meter, in series with the coil 13, connected between terminals 19, 20. For check weighing, it is arranged that this output is zero when the required load is applied to the weighbeam. Under and overweight articles then produce an output current which, by the action of the coil and its magnet, is made to resist beam deflection. The current at final equilibrium is a measure of weight error and may be used to indicate rejecting action when necessary.
