871,343. Diaphragm pumps. SCHAURTE, P. Dec. 23, 1957 [Dec. 22, 1956], No. 39970/57. Class 102(1). Variation of the effective stroke of a reciprocating pump comprising two flexible resilient diaphrams 12, 9 forming with a housing wall 10 an oil-filled chamber 22 and wherein the diaphram 12 is reciprocated by a cam-actuated plunger 15 and. the diaphram 9 forces liquid having entered a pumping chamber 2 through a duct 3 past a check valve 7 to a delivery duct 5 is effected by axial positioning relative to the housing member 13 of a guide sleeve 17 for the plunger 15 in screw threaded engagement with said housing member 13 and in a withdrawn position providing a space into which the annular portion 12a of the diaphram 12 is forced by the oil pressure in chamber 22 ; the strength of spring 6 being sufficient to prevent the valve plate 7 being opened until the diaphram portion 12a is forced against the lower end of guide member 17.
