Abstract
870,282. Hot-water boilers; hot-water supply systems. VANDEVELDE, R.N. Aug. 29, 1958 [Sept. 7, 1957], No. 27864/58. Class 64(1) A boiler 1 fired by a fluid fuel burner 2 supplies hot water to a central heating .system including a pump 5 or a shut-off valve 6 or both. The boiler's water compartment, through which may pass vertical flues, Fig. 2 (not shown), contains a coil 8 fed directly by a cold water pipe 10 and discharging into a narrow vessel 11 near to an outlet 8 from that chamber to a pipe 12 supplying hot water to a drawoff position 15. If water is not drawn off, it passes back to the chamber 11 through a pipe 16. If the water from the coil 8 drops in temperature, a thermostat 13, near its outlet, turns on the burner 2 and stops the circulation in the central heating system by stopping the pump 5 or by shutting the valves 6 or both if both devices are present. The boiler 1 contains a thermostat 3 which shuts off the burner at high temperatures and a thermostat 4 which keeps the boiler from falling below a desired minimum. There are also space thermostats which act on the pump or on the valve or on both if both are present.
