Abstract
A polyvinyl acetal composition, for use in making films or printing inks, has incorporated therein a dyestuff, particularly an oil-soluble azo or anthraquinone dyestuff, which has been stabilized against photodegradation by admixture with a dialkyl dithiocarbamate chelate of nickel, cobalt, zinc, manganese or chromium or an alkylxanthate chelate or a 2-mercaptobenzothiazole chelate or a salicylaldehyde ethylene-di-imine chelate of nickel or cobalt. The polyvinyl acetal, e.g., polyvinyl butyral, composition may also include plasticizers such as triethylene glycol di-(2-ethyl butyrate), di(b -butoxyethyl) adipate, dioctyl phthalate and dibutyl sebacate, and solvents such as dialkyl formamides, chlorinated hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones and mixtures thereof with aromatic hydrocarbons or esters.ALSO:Dyestuffs, particularly oil-soluble azo or anthraquinone dyestuffs, are stabilized against photo-degradation by admixing therewith a dialkyl dithiocarbamate chelate of nickel, cobalt, zinc, manganese or chromium or an alkylxanthate chelate or a 2-mercaptobenzothiazole chelate or a salicylaldehyde ethylenediimine chelate of nickel or cobalt. The stabilized dyes may be applied to or incorporated in polyvinyl acetal sheets for use as interlayers for safety glass or incorporated in polyvinyl acetal compositions for use in printing inks or for making films.
