A lawn-mower of the type comprising a traction roller e, a cutting cylinder h co-operating with an adjustable ledger blade 8 and driven from the traction roller, and adjustable rollers o between the ledger blade and the traction roller for controlling the depth of cut of the mower, is provided with additional wheels, rollers or skids to prevent the ledger blade from digging into the ground when the mower is traversing uneven terrain. In the particular embodiment described skids z are welded to the lower, forward edges of the side plates a and b of the mower and are formed into hooks 7 at one end for the attachment of a grass box. The adjustable rollers o are mounted in a yoke comprising a horizontal bar p and two vertical, longitudinally slotted bars q in which the spindle s of the rollers is fixed. This yoke is mounted on the side plates a, b, so as to be vertically slidable relative thereto, such adjustment being effected by means of screws u at each end of the bar p. The said bar p is extended at one end to form a marker v which moves along a calibration scale marked on the cover w of the mower. The ledger blade 8 is mounted on a bracket which is bolted to the side plates of the mower, one side of the bracket being extended to form an arm 12 which passes beneath an off-set portion of the adjacent vertical bar q (see Fig. 3), between the end of one roller o and the side plate b of the mower, and has a spring 13 bearing against its free end. A screw 14 passes through a lug on the sideplate b, through the screw, and through the free end of the arm 12, so that by slackening the bolts fastening the ledger blade bracket to the mower frame, and by varying the pressure of the spring 13 on the arm 12 by means of the screw 14, the setting of the ledger blade can be adjusted.
