Abstract
867,476. Electric hair driers. EISEMANN G.m.b.H. Feb. 15, 1960 [March 14, 1959], No. 5231/60. Class 39(3). A simultaneous variation in air thrust and heating output in a hair drier containing fan 16, Fig. 1, driven by motor 17, a heating element 24 or 25 and a switch 45, is obtained by arranging the switch in an electrical circuit so that it connects the heater to a supply either in series or in parallel with the motor. The heating element comprises two electrically separate interwound coils of wire 24, 25 mounted on a ceramic support 21 with vanes 22 disposed so that in cross-section the support is in the form of a cross. One of the heating elements 32, Fig. 3, is placed in parallel with the motor but when double pole switch 52-55-35 is thrown, pole 52 opens and pole 35 engages with the motor contact b thus placing the motor and heater in series. The heater then acts as a resistance causing the motor to slow down. Owing to the decreased current flowing the element 32 does not heat up to the same extent as it did when in parallel with the motor. In the parallel arrangement an additional heater 33 may be energised by closing switch 34 (44, Fig. 1). A main switch 36 (46, Fig. 1) is also provided, these being mounted on the handle 12 of the drier.
