866,863. Cylinder paper-board machines &c. MAGNANI, A. June 3, 1959 [June 6, 1958; April 9, 1959], No. 19021/59. Class 96. A forming-cylinder 4 for the manufacture of paper, paper-board, or asbestos-cement sheets, has ribs 8 covered by a felt 3 to form suctionchannels 9 which aid in felting a web 14 from a slurry 2 in a vat 1. The ribbed surface of the forming-cylinder 4 is in sections side-by-side along its length, each section having suction and drainage holes 10 at each end of each channel, the holes 10 communicating with suction slots 13 in a support 5 for the shell of the cylinder 4, raised portions 12 bearing against the shell to seal the slots and to provide a compartment 11 which is at atmospheric pressure. At the ends of the cylinder 4, the channels 9 are closed by pieces having smooth surfaces, which also act as guides for the edges of the felt 3. In another form, pulp is supplied to the vat 1 by a pipe delivering over the outer vat wall, and is stirred in the vat, and resilient rubber seals are provided. for the lateral end-walls of the vat 1; and fork-shaped sectors on adjustable sleeves restrict suction to the required openings.
