Abstract

866,277. Boxes. ROSS, H. A., and ROSS BROS. (LONDON) Ltd. Oct. 9, 1959 [Oct. 9, 1958; Nov, 28, 1958], Nos. 32312/58 and 38556/58. Class 18. [Also in Group XXV] A box is produced from a blank as shown in Fig. 1 having aligned side panels 10, 11, 12, 13 to the aligned edges of which is secured a metal strip 14 comprising a flange 15 attached in the plane of the side panels by pressed-out tongues 17 and a flange 16 at right-angles thereto except along the edges of side panel 11 where the flanges 15 and 16 lie in the same plane, the flange 16 being welded to metal plates 21 provided on two end panels 18. The end panels 18 are bent down at right-angles to the side panels 11 and the remaining side panels then bent down at right angles to each other after which the remaining flanges 16 are welded to the remainder of the metal plates 21. In a modification, the metal strip does not extend around the edges of the whole box, since the lid is made up of two side-panels instead of one along the edges of which the strip extends partially. A further embodiment consists of an open box, formed with only three side-panels.
