865,279. A.C. generators. MORRIS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., JOHN. Nov. 11, 1959 [Dec. 19, 1958], No. 41009/58. Class 35. In an A.C. generating machine comprising a generator having a rotor b carrying a field exciting winding f and a stator a carrying polyphase current generating windings k, there is provided an exciter having a rotor e rotatable with the generator rotor b and carrying polyphase current generating windings h connected through rectifiers g to the generator field winding f, and a stator d carrying both voltage windings m connected across and corresponding in number with the generator stator phases and current windings n connected to feed the load circuit from the generator; the current windings n are displaced by 90 electrical degrees from the associated voltage windings m and both are connected to produce a field which rotates oppositely to the rotor e. As shown applied to a 3-phase machine the windings m, n and k are wound in stator slots and maintain constant load voltage over a wide range of load current variation; additional fine regulation may be provided by a toroidal winding p mounted on the exciter stator d and supplied with direct current from an external source.
