Abstract

A sheet of polytetrafluoroethylene is made receptive to adhesives whilst largely retaining its mechanical properties by exposing a surface of the polytetrafluoroethylene to the action of ionizing radiation such as high energy electrons or gamma rays whilst in contact with a liquid monomer of the structure:- <FORM:0864893/IV (a)/1> in which R1 is an organic radical and R2 is a hydrogen atom or an organic radical. The monomer may be vinyl acetate, butyl methacrylate, styrene or N-vinyl pyrrolidone.
