Abstract

864,741. Grinding. LARALLEE & IDE Inc. Aug. 12, 1959 [Sept. 5, 1958], No. 27555/59. Class 60. [Also in Group XXII] A method of making a reamer R comprises centreless grinding a hardened blank to the cutting diameter of the reamer, and then grinding flutes in one end of the blank leaving lands 32 of the cutting diameter between the flutes. Before flame &c hardening of the blank, centre holes 10 are drilled in its ends. The blank is held in a collet 26 while the flutes are ground and the lands sharpened and relieved at 30 by grinding wheels 22, 24. The shank is further ground at 34 before conical enlargements 42 are turned or ground in the centre holes 10.
