Abstract

863,565. Afocal attachments. SCHNEIDER, M. C. May 12, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958], No. 16200/59. Class 97(1) An afocal lens system for attachment in front of an objective comprises a front member I of positive power and a rear member II of negative power, the front member being made up of three meniscus components convex towards the front and of which the second component L 2 , L 3 is a doublet whereas the rear member is a doublet L 5 , L 6 . In this system the focal length of the front meniscus L 1 is greater than 1 ' 5F and less than 2 ' 5F, the radius R 1 is between 0 ' 8F and F and the radius R 3 is between 0.6F and 0À9F when F is the focal length of front member I. In a modified form of this system, the component L 4 is cemented to the second component to form a triplet, and the rear member II consists of two simple lenses. Optical data are given for one example of each system. It is preferred that the cemented surface R 4 shall be concave towards the object and have a radius between 3F and 5F. Also the glasses used in the front member are preferably such that the sum of the refractive indices thereof lies between 6.4 and 7.
