Abstract

863,524. Slipways. GOTAVERKEN A. B. June 25, 1959 [July 15, 1958], No. 21857/59. Class 68(2). A ship-building slipway comprises a base 1 with embedded joists 3 which form flat tracks 4 for the rollers 8 of roller units 5. Each unit comprises a plurality of rollers 8 mounted in a frame 11. A tongue 13 projecting from the track 4 engages a groove 12 in each roller. The ship is supported on blocks 6 secured to channel beams 7 which run on the rollers 8 and have a projecting tongue 16. Each roller unit has a pair of arms pivoted on the spindle of the roller at one end of the units and the arms have notches at their free ends which engage reduced portions 15 on the rollers of an adjacent unit. In use a number of roller units are connected together (Fig. 5) of sufficient length to carry the requisite number of blocks 6 and when the unit has been built it is moved along by means 19 and further roller units and blocks are assembled on the ways. Where a block 6 is used as a distance piece to push the unit 9 it is prevented from tipping by pivoted arms 20 with roller ends 21 which engage the top surface of the edges of the beams 7. Return tracks 17 are provided between the ways to enable roller units to be returned to the loading position.
