Abstract

863,193. Gas turbine plant. STAMMINGER, W. April 16, 1959 [April 19, 1958], No. 12992/59. Class 110 (3). A power plant comprises the combination of gas turbine plant of the type supplied by a free piston gas generator, and a boiler, exhaust gases from the gas turbine being supplied to the furnace of the boiler as combustion-supporting medium. According to the invention a blower is provided taking its suction from a point in the duct connecting the gas turbine exhaust to atmosphere, so that if the amount of turbine exhaust gases are not sufficient for operation of the boiler furnace, additional air may be drawn in from the atmosphere through the turbine exhaust duct. Alternatively, if the turbine exhaust gases are in excess of that required by the furnace, the excess may be passed direct to atmosphere. The gas turbine 4 is supplied with combustion gases from the free piston gas generator 10 and the turbine exhaust gases may pass to atmosphere through the duct 28. Alternatively the exhaust gases may be drawn from the duct 28 through the duct 12 by means of a blower 13, the gases passing through duct 15-into the furnace of the boiler 17 where they constitute combustion supporting gases. If the supply of turbine exhaust gases is insufficient air may be drawn in from the atmosphere through duct 28, the mixture of turbine exhaust gases and atmospheric air passing through blower 13 to the boiler furnace. Similarly if the gas turbine is not in operation air may be drawn in through the duct 28 to supply the boiler furnace. The air or gases supplied by the blower 13 may be preheated by means of a steam-heated preheater 14, steam being supplied thereto through reducing valve 26 and discharged therefrom at 27.
