Abstract
862,973. Feeding sheets. KODAK Ltd. Nov. 28, 1957 [Nov. 30, 1956], No. 36642/56. Class 100(1) [Also in Group XXX] A jet of compressed air introduced tangentially through an orifice 3, Fig. 7, near the closed end of a cylinder 1, produces a vortex in the cylinder and a region of low pressure at the centre of the open end, enabling objects 13 such as photographic plates or films to be lifted. The object 13 does not touch the cylinder since air is escaping between the lip 6 and the object. The cylinder may be wider near its closed end, as at 15, Fig. 5, and may have a trumpet mouth as at 9, Fig. 3. The embodiment of Fig. 3 is cut from a block of "Perspex" (Registered Trade Mark) or similar material. Preferred dimensions are given for the cylinders. A number of the devices 28, Figs. 8, 9, may be mounted in a plate 49 and provided with an air inlet 26 and distributing passages 27, 46. Channels 29 in the lower surface 50 allow the air to escape. Alternatively the cylinder lips 36, Fig. 12, may protrude below the lower surface. In another embodiment, Fig. 14, a number of devices 41 are arranged in the lower surface of a wind chest 38. More than one jet may discharge into each nozzle.
