Abstract
862,781. Respiratory appliances. NORMALAIR Ltd. Nov. 17, 1959 [Jan. 22, 1959], No. 2393/59. Class 81 (1). An alarm device for giving warning of a failing air supply has a flow control device upstream of its actuating valve. The air supply line 6 is connected through the choke screw 7 to a chamber 10 enclosing a ball valve 12, closure of which is opposed by a spring-loaded piston 18. The air pressure is normally sufficient to hold the valve closed against the force of the spring 23, but when it falls sufficiently for the valve to begin to open, the pressure in the valve chamber 10 immediately escapes through the whistle 26 and cannot be built up again owing to the choke 7. In the absence of any resistance, the valve opens fully and air, through the choke screw, passes unimpeded to the whistle, being sufficient to actuate it.
