Abstract
An alloy of low coefficient of expansion and good strength suitable for use as parts of high-speed aircraft has a composition within the following range in per cent by weight: Ni 22.0-36.0, Co 5.0-30.0, Ti 1.25-1.75, C less than 0.05, Cu 0-2.0, Fe and impurities the remainder. Among the impurities Mn should be kept as low as possible. Si, Mo and Nb should not exceed 1.0 of each. The alloys may be hardened by heating for 5-30 hours in the range 550-650 DEG C. Preferably the alloy, in the form of hot-rolled sheet, is cold rolled before hardening. Annealing may not be necessary but, if used, may comprise heating for at least 5 minutes in the range 750-900 DEG C.
