Abstract

860,495. Tool-holders. MUNDAY, P. C. Aug. 18, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958], No. 29620/58. Class 83 (3). A turning or like tool is adjusted for height relative to the tool-holder without removing the holder from the lathe tool-box. A bar 1 has serrations 3 which co-operate with serrations 5 of the same pitch on a block 4. Serrations 6 having a different pitch co-operate with serrations 8 on a block 7 which carries a tool 21. The tool is adjusted by selecting the required serrations and tightening a nut 12 on a bolt 9 against a washer 13 having serrations 16 which co-operate with serrations 17 on the bar 1, a spring 14 urging the blocks together. In a modification, the serrations are at an angle to give a greater variety of height-settings, and instead of the tool 21, which can be placed in either slot 22 or 23 in the block 7, a boring-bar may be secured to the block 7. The blocks 4, 7 can be clamped to the opposite side of the bar 1 as the serrations 17, 3 have the same pitch.
