Abstract

860,028. Removing wrappers from packages. KÍRBER, K. Sept. 23, 1958 [Sept. 26, 1957 ; April 29, 1958], No. 30332/58. Class 94(1). An apparatus for severing wrappers on articles such as hands of tobacco comprises a series of cutters mounted on a drum, the cutters engaging the wrappers successively to cut them longitudinally. Packages B are fed beneath the drum 12 by a conveyer 4 the drum being mounted on a right angle frame 8 pivoted to a fixed upright 5 at 7 and urged downwards by the weight of the frame, drum and driving motor 10. A spring 30 may supply additional pressure. The drum is slotted to receive cutters 18 fixed by wedges 19 and the periphery is formed by strips 21, 26 mounted for radial movement on plates 23 and urged outwards so as to shield the cutters except when depressed inwards by the packages during cutting.
