Abstract
859,205. Exposure meters. KOBAYASHI, H. Aug. 6, 1957 [Aug. 7, 1956; Sept. 25, 1956; Feb. 28, 1957], No. 24700/57. Class 40(3). [Also in Group XX] The pointer of a built-in exposure meter is viewed, in the camera viewfinder by reflection from reflectors, movable in response to the adjustment of a film speed indicator, the aperture of the objective diaphragm and the shutter speed, in relation to a fixed mark so that movement of the reflectors brings about an apparent displacement of the pointer. As shown, the exposure meter pointer P is illuminated from above by an arcuate window and moves over an arcuate translucent plate 3. It is viewed from viewfinder eye aperture 42 by means of reflectors 12, 11, 9, 8, 6 and 5, reflectors 9 and 6 being movable rectilinearly in accordance with the shutter speed and film speed respectively and reflectors 12 and 11 being angularly movable in accordance with the diaphragm aperture. The reflectors are connected to a shutter speed setting spindle in the camera body and a toothed diaphragm adjusting ring in the lens mount by bevel and pinion drives (Figs. 2 and 12-14, not shown). Preferably, the range of adjustment of the diaphragm and shutter is greater than that corresponding to a single traverse of the pointer between the limits of its movements and successive traverses are viewed by reflector 18 (Fig. 6) replacing reflector 5 and having mutually inclined reflecting surfaces so that successive traverses viewed by means of different surfaces appear to be mutually displaced longitudinally. For the brightest objects, the photo-cell is masked by apertured flap 1, for less bright objects the flap 1 is moved to the position shown in Fig. 8 and for dull objects a second photo-cell is connected in parallel with the original cell and the flap is further raised. The movement of flap 1 is imparted to reflector 18 by means of arms 27, 28 and sector gears 32, 32<SP>1</SP> and pinion 35 on shaft 19.
