858,468. Washing-machines. A.E.I.-HOTPOINT Ltd. Oct. 23, 1959 [Nov. 18, 1958], No. 37089/58. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XIII] The lid 18 of a machine in which washing and spin-drying operations are carried out in the same drum, is pivotally mounted on V-shaped brackets 20 so that it may be slid from a position covering the drum 10 into a space between the drum and the walls of the container 12 in which the drum is mounted. The brackets are pivotally attached to the container walls at 22, but in machines without such a container the attachment is effected on the casing walls. The lid may comprise a solid plate or be of wire or moulded mesh.
