Abstract
857,828. Shearing. WEAN EQUIPMENT CORPORATION. July 22, 1957 [Oct. 19, 1956], No. 23096/57. Class 83 (4). Continuously advancing strip is cut into lengths by a cyclically advanced shear when the leading edge of the strip is engaging a gauging stop advancing with the shear. The shear comprises an upper blade 15 fixed in a frame 9 movable in a circular path by crank-shafts 3, 4, having crank-pins 7, 8 pivotally engaging the frame 9. The lower blade 16 slides in guides in the frame 9 and is constrained to an arcuate path by a pivoted arm 12. As the frame 9 moves anticlockwise, projections 58 on rods 57 hinged to a fixed stand 2 disengage detents 49 from stops 44 carried by blocks 41 adjustably mounted on brackets 39 secured to the frame 9. The stops 44 are pressed downward by springs 46 until offset projections 71 on the stops contact fixed plates 69 on either side of the path of the strip, which is fed by rolls 17, 18 to register with abutments 64 on the stops 44. As the blades 15, 16 reach the cutting position, the feed rollers 17, 18 are momentarily parted by a cam 28 linked to the lower blade 16 and the off-set projections 71 move clear of the plates 69 to allow the stops 44 to clamp the strip 5 against brackets 63 attached to the lower blade 16. The detents 49 re-enegage the stops 44 which are raised as the blades return to the position shown in Fig. 1. The severed portion is rapidly removed by a conveyer belt 72. Specifications 808,460 and 857,861 are referred to.
