Abstract

857,424. Testing yarns &c. BURTON ENGINEERING CO. (BRIDLINGTON) Ltd., and BURTON, G. H. June 28, 1959 [Feb. 8, 1958], No. 4181/58. Class 120(3). A device for detecting knots in yarns comprises a pivotably mounted feeler element 18 adjustable to an initial position to define, with a fixed cooperating member 14 a gap just sufficient to allow a running yarn Y to pass therethrough, whereby each knot in the yarn causes the element 18 to rock and actuate a visual or aural graduated signalling arrangement which may be augmented by a counting device. Element 18 is kept in position by a spring 23, The member 14 is a hard ceramic or metallic eccentrically mounted roller. The counting device comprises a spring loaded pivotable catch arm 25, which constitutes an escapement mechanism release of which is effected by the passage of a knot through the gap. When the predetermined number of knots has been exceeded a cut-off knife may be brought into operation. A common resetting arrangement can be installed to act upon extension 28. In the path of the catch arm 25, are electrical contacts 35, 36, 37 which operate the signalling arrangement 29 and 31.
