Abstract

855,535. Surgical injection apparatus. CUTTER LABORATORIES Inc. May 6, 1959, No. 15579/59. Class 81(2) A drip feed chamber for use in parenteral administration of fluids has an inlet tube and air passage at one end, these being sharpened so as to be capable of readily piercing the stopper of a fluid container. In the form described a transparent body 42, of slightly conical shape, is sealed to a cover 43 having an inlet duct 44 extending through it. The upper part of it carries an air inlet tube 52, the lower end of which projects sideways to form a projection 56 on which a cap 58, enclosing an air filter 61, may be attached. The air inlet tube preferably extends above the fluid tube and both are bevelled, as at 54, 47, so as to pierce the stopper of a container. Preferably the stopper used has an internal recess extending through the greater part of its thickness, so as to leave a thin diaphragm at its outer end, and the recess has an inwardly directed annular projection, approximately halfway down its depth which serves to grip the inlet tube of the feed indicator when this is in position.
