Abstract
853,243. Air-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. March 24, 1959 [March 25, 1958], No. 10106/59. Class 38 (5). In an air-blast circuit-breaker compressed air from a pipe 16 is supplied to a control-air container 11 through a non-return valve 18, and to an air-blast container 10 through a non-return valve 17 and a normally open stop valve 19 controlled by a differential piston 21. Normally the container 1, housing a stationary contact 2 and a nozzle-shaped movable contact 3, is permanently filled with compressed air and the breaker is operated by admitting control air to space 6, normally at atmospheric pressure, through a valve 14 to depress a spring-controlled piston 4, thus allowing blast air to flow out through a channel 9 and a valve 15, which closes when the breaking gap is fully opened. Should the air pressure in container 10 decrease beyond a predetermined value due to a leak, the valve 19 is closed by the piston 21 to maintain the pressure in the pipe 16 and thus prevent a pressure drop in the control-air system (due to normal leakage) causing undesirable closing of the moving contact 3. The piston design is such that pressure differences caused during normal operation of the breaker do not actuate the valve 19. A spring 20 is provided to keep the valve 19 open when containers 10, 11 are empty of air.
