Abstract

2 - Methyl - 4, 9 - bis - methoxyacetoxy - bis.-naphthoxazolequinone-4,9 having the formula <FORM:0853120/IV(b)/1> is prepared by treating 2-methyl-bis-naphthoxazolequinone-4, 9 with zinc dust and methoxyacetic anhydride at 120 to 145 DEG C. 2-methyl-4 9 - bis - methoxyacetoxy - bis - naphthothiazolequinone - 4, 9 is similarly prepared from the corresponding 2-methylnaphthothiazole. German Specification 485,322 is referred to.ALSO:Solid compositions for combating tubercolosis comprise a solid pharmaceutical carrier and, as active ingredient one or more compounds of general formula; <FORM:0853120/VI/1> wherein X is an oxygen or sulphur atom, R is hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl or heteroaryl radical and Ac is an acyl radical. The compositions may be in pharmaceutical forms such as tablets, capsules, and emulsions which may contain additional tuberculostatically active substances e.g. iso-nicotinic-acid hydrazide and its active derivatives, semicarbazones of aromatic or heterocylic aldehydes, streptomycin, p-amino-ralicylic acid. Specific compounds of the above general formulae mentioned are; 2-methyl-lin.-naphthexazole-quinine-4, 9 and the corresponding naphtho-thiazole; 2,phenyl-lin-naphthexazole-quinine-4,9;2-methyl-4, 9-diacetoxy-lin.-naphthexazole-quinine-4, 9; 2-methyl-4, 9-bis-methoxy-acetoxy-lin.-naphthexazole-quinine-4, 9 and the corresponding naphthathiazole.
