Abstract

850,091. Valves. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Oct. 1, 1958 [Oct. 9, 1957], No. 31573/57. Class 135. The pivoted closure member 17 of a non- return valve coacts with an oblique seat 16 formed on a housing element 10 which is secured to a second housing element 11 by a nut 12 and may swing about its pivot pin 19 into a recess 32 in which it is laterally displaced from the inlet bore 14. The member 17 is loaded by a spring 22 of U-formation, the two limbs of which lie on either side of a lug 21 through which the pin 19 passes, are interconnected by a portion that bears on the member 17 diametrically opposite the lug, and are formed with coils 23, 26. The hole in the lug 21 for the pin 19 is elongated so that the valve member first lifts from its seat near the pin 19 before pivoting about the pin. A sealing ring 28 is carried by the valve member or by the seat.
