Abstract
849,270. Tensioning driving chains. HAHN, O., and HAHN, E., [trading as INDEXWERKE KOMMANDIT - GESELLSCHAFT HAHN & TESSKY]. Feb. 13, 1957 [March 6, 1956], No. 4869/57. Class 80 (1). In a chain-tensioning device, particularly for automatic lathes, wherein a chain 20 is tensioned by a wheel 21 carried by a spring-loaded bolt 50 slidable in a sleeve 30 adjustably secured in a fixed rocket 22, the bolt 50 has at its rear end an indicator pin 51 which at normal chain tension projects through a cap 32 on the sleeve 30. Any slackening of the chain, resulting in a movement of the bolt 50 under the action of its spring 34, may thus be readily observed and be compensated by adjustment of the sleeve 30 in the socket 22 to restore the normal spring loading. The projection of the indicator pin may, as shown, be only slight and/or the pin may be provided with a scale. The bolt 50 is held against rotation by a stop-pin 42 slidable in slits in the sleeve 30. The sleeve 30 is adjustably clamped in the socket 22 by a bolt 26 and is held against rotation by a key 45. An impactabsorbing spring 54 is housed in a bore in the sleeve 30 between the cap 32 and a plate 55, the latter being contacted by the end of the bolt 50 when an impact on the wheel 21 occurs. In a modification the spring 54 is omitted. It is stated that an acoustic or optical indicating device may be operated by the movement of the bolt 50.
