Abstract
849,165. Photographic roll films. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN N.V. Jan. 24, 1957 [Jan. 27, 1956], No. 2625/57. Class 98(1) A roll-film backing consists of a single ply opaque paper strip laminated on its coloured face with a one or more pre-formed sheets of transparent material. A sheet of transparent thermoplastic material may be extruded from a die slit and immediately laminated with the paper strip. Adhesives or self-adhesive material may be used to unite the sheets. Transparent materials referred to are polyethylene, regenerated cellulose and cellulose acetate. Markings may be applied separately to the paper strips in a contrasting colour, but it is preferred to over print them with a roller in which the markings are engraved, thus colouring and marking the strips in one operation. To provide intimate contact between the margins of the backing and the flanges of a film spool a strip and transparent sheet of equal width may be offset laterally with respect to one another and the uncovered margin of the paper strip left uncoloured. Alternatively the transparent sheet may be of insufficient width to cover either margin of the paper strip.
