Abstract

848,892. Pressure-relieving devices for fluids. BLACK, SIVALLS & BRYSON Inc. Jan. 28, 1957, No. 3002/57. Class 135. A safety pressure relief device comprises a dome shaped slotted rupture member and a dome shaped rupturable sealing member positioned with respect to each other so that the rupture member protects the sealing member from premature rupture and the sealing member provides a seal for the device. The device comprises a slotted dome shaped rupture disc 10, a dome shaped sealing member 11 and a plurality of protection elements 12 made from relatively thin material and positioned between the slotted rupture disc 10 and the sealing member 11 to protect the sealing member from cutting itself on the sharp edges of the slots 13 in the disc 10. Where a vacuum may occur on the underside of the sealing member a support member 22 and disc 23 may be mounted below the sealing member, an additional set of protection elements 26 being utilised to protect the sealing member from the sharp edges of the slots 25 in the support member 22. The various elements constituting the safety device are clamped between two flanges associated with the relief outlet of the vessel to be protected. The sealing member may be made of corrosive resistive material to protect the pressure side of the rupture member from corrosion. The disc 23 is retained by a plurality of clips 24 secured to the member 22.
