Abstract

A process for obtaining a soap-containing sodium N-tallow acyl-N-methyl tauride composition in a fluid condition below 120 DEG C. comprises adjusting the soap content to 2-18%, preferably about 8%, by weight of the total non-aqueous ingredients, and the water content to 20-30%, preferably about 25%, by weight of the total composition. This is suitably achieved by adding to the composition of soap and tauride which is initially at a temperature above 130 DEG C., generally 150-160 DEG C., water of such a temperature that the final mixture has a temperature above 65 DEG C., usually 90-100 DEG C. If the soap content is not up to the desired level, soap or caustic soda may either be added to the water to be used, or the soap level adjusted first before the water is added.
