Abstract

The invention comprises hydrocortisone 21-semi-sulphate and salts thereof with physiologically acceptable bases, and the preparation thereof by reacting hydrocortisone with a reagent to form the 21-semi-sulphate residue and, if desired converting the 21-semi-sulphate into a salt with a physiologically acceptable base. The 21-semi-sulphate residue may be prepared by reacting hydrocortisone with the pyridine-sulphur trioxide adduct. Suitable salts are the sodium, potassium, trimethylammonium, tetramethylammonium, and choline salts. In the examples the 21-semi-sulphate is prepared using the pyridine-sulphur trioxide adduct, and aminosulphonic acid and chlorosulphonic acid in the presence of pyridine, and the specific salts referred to above are prepared thereform.ALSO:An injection or inhalant consists of an aqueous solution of a salt of the 21-semi-sulphate of hydrocortisone with a physiologically acceptable base such as the sodium, potassium, triethylammonium, tetramethylammonium and choline salt.
