Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0847573/IV(b)/1> where X is a cycloheptyl or cyclo-octyl radical and R1 and R11 represent hydrogen or an alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, aryl or haloaryl radical or R1 and R11 may be parts of a heterocyclic ring which can have an oxygen or nitrogen atom in the ring besides the nitrogen atom of the urea group which is one of the ring atoms. They may be prepared by treating an amine X,NH2 with CS2 in the presence of alkali to give the salt of the dithiocarbonic acid X,NHCSSH, treating this with an alkyl chloroformate to give the isothocyanate X,NCS and treating this with the amine HNR1 R2. The preparation of N-cyclo-octyl-N1, N1-diethyl thiourea from cyclo-octyl-amine is described. Many compounds of the general formula are mentioned with their melting points.ALSO:The invention comprises any herbicide containing a compound of the formula: <FORM:0847573/VI/1> where X is a cyclo-heptyl or cyclo-octyl radical and R1 and R11 represent hydrogen or an alkyl cycloalkyl, alkenyl, aryl or haloaryl radical or R1 and R11 may be parts of a heterocyclic ring which can have an oxygen or nitrogen atom in the ring besides the nitrogen atom of the urea group which is one of the ring atoms. The active compound may be in the form of an aqueous dispersion with the usual wetting agents or mixed with a carrier such as calcium nitrate or silica gel. Examples are given.
