[Also in Group VIII] A composite yarn for knitting (Group VIII) contains continuous filaments having a material range of fully recoverable elasticity and continuous filaments having a lower range of recoverable elasticity, the yarn having been wound into a package under a tension of such magnitude that both kinds of filament are extended, the former recoverably and the latter permanently. The two components to be doubled should have no, or little twist (e.g. one turn per inch or less) and be combined by doubling with moderate twist. For the filaments of the first kind there may be used polyamides such as polyhexamethylene adipamide, polyhexamethylene sebacamide and polyaminocaproic acid; polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate; polythene; polyaminotriazoles; polyacrylonitrile; and polyvinylidene chloride, the filaments being subjected, after extrusion, to appropriate cold or hot drawing. For the filaments of the second kind there may be used cellulose acetate or other organic derivate of cellulose; or regenerated cellulose such as viscose or "cuprainmium"; or synthetic linear polymers not exhibiting strong inter-chain forces, such as polyvinyl chloride and its copolymers with minor proportions of vinyl acetate.
