Abstract
A ceramic body is metallized, for bonding it to a metal or metallized ceramic body, by coating it with a mixture of powders including 1% to 25% by weight titanium, 40% to 10% by weight manganese and over 50% by weight of either molybdenum or tungsten and then firing it in a reducing atmosphere at a temperature at least as high as the sintering temperature of the mixture a suitable coating and firing technique being described. The powdered metals may be in either their elemental or oxide forms or the titanium may be in the form of titanium hydride. The preferred percentage ratios are expressed by the formula x% Mn+4x%Mo or W+Y% Ti=100% the actual values not being critical and the optimum mixture being about 19% Mn+77% Mo or W+4% Ti, U.S.A. Specification 2,667,427 is referred to.
