Abstract
Sintered metal sheet or wire e.g. of W, Ta or Nb is made by placing the metal powder in a tubular container of a material having the same composition as the powder, sintering in an inert atmosphere, removing the container and working the sintered body to form a sheet or wire. Sintering is preferably carried out by high frequency heating and the atmosphere is argon or a vacuum. W powder particle size 60 to 80 microns was sintered in a W tube at 2400 DEG C. for five minutes and then swaged and drawn to form a wire or rolled to a sheet.
