Abstract

844,156. Valves. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 5, 1957 [March 9, 1956], No. 7443/56. Class 135. In a valve housing having an inlet passage 16 and an outlet passage 17 respectively disposed at approximately right angles to each other, a valve member 18 is movable along the axis of one of the passages between a closed position (see Figure) in which it engages a seating 19 and an open position, denoted by chain dotted lines, where fluid deflector means, e.g. vanes 32, mounted on and movable with the valve member guide the fluid round the corner. Actuating means for moving the valve member may comprise a connecting rod 21 having a piston 26 slidable in an hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder 27 mounted coaxially with the valve member in a separate housing 14 by means of transverse trunnions 28 and spring 29.
