Abstract

844,123. Hydraulic apparatus. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. Aug. 15, 1958 [June 9, 1958], No. 26276/58. Class 69 (2). A flow control valve for use in an hydraulic system, such as may control an implement drawn or carried by a tractor, comprises restrictions 18 in passages 11, 12 adapted to be included one in each of two conduits which may be connected selectively to pressure and exhaust, valves 20, 21 normally closing ports 24, 25 leading one from each passage to the other, and means 29 to communicate pressure in whichever passage is connected to the inlet conduit to open it and admit fluid to the other passage. The valves are urged to positions clsiong the ports by springs 26, 27 and the pressure built up by the restriction in whichever of the passages is connected by the inlet conduit to the end of a double-acting hydraulic motor is transmitted to the end of the corresponding valve by means of the passage 29 to move the valve and open the port, passageways 30 or 31 preventing back-pressure restricting the movement of the valve. The excess pressure in the inlet conduit is thus connected to the exhaust conduit and the flow of fluid to the motor limited to ensure regulated movement thereof.
