Abstract

843,454. Electric battery lamps. WORTMANN, H. May 14, 1958 [May 16, 1957], No. 15376/58. Class 39(2). An attachment for a battery powered electric lamp of the type in which all the elements are contained in a common casing for holding in the hand, includes a bimetallic switch so arranged that when it is attached to the lamp and the main switch of the lamp is in the "on" position, current flows through the lamp bulb via the bimetallic switch. The latter is thereby heated and caused to break the circuit so that an intermittent light is produced. In a cylindrical torch 1 the device may be carried in a cap 3 at the opposite end of the torch to the bulb. An insulating cup 5 is mounted in the cap and carries a metal cup 6 engaging a coil spring 8 pressing on the end of the battery. The casing is connected to a bimetallic strip 11 round which a heating wire 13 is coiled, the end of the wire terminating in a contact on the strip co-operating with a fixed contact 10 connected to the cup 6. A sliding switch 14 is mounted on the end of the cap for short-circuiting the strip 11 so that a continuous light is produced.
