Abstract

843,157. Brushes, handles. HARDMAN CO. Inc., H. V. Nov. 7, 1958, No. 35844/58. Classes 19 and 61. The hollow plastics moulded handle 2 of a brush is formed with a skirt 6 on which is positioned the bristle-encompassing metal ferrule 8 of the brush after a plug 4 has been positioned within the skirt 6. Nails are driven through the ferrule 8 and skirt 6 into the plug 4 to secure the parts together. The plug 4. which stiffens the skirt, is preferably of wood and of cubical shape so that spaces are left between the curved end portions of the skirt and the plug. The handle may be further strengthened by an axially extending rod or tube 28 having a sliding fit with a pair of opposed interior surfaces of the handle. The rod or tube 28 may be freely mounted within the handle or be driven into the block. The handle is preferably made in two parts 2a, 2b to facilitate production of the handle and to allow of access to the inside thereof after assembly of the two parts of the brush. The handle is pierced by a hole 14 so that the brush can be hung on a hook when not in use.
