Abstract
842,737. Lawn-mowers. BREW, L. M. June 20, 1958 [June 25, 1957], No. 20043/57. Class 6(2). A bar 2 provided with one or more rows of tines 4, or with brush bristles, is pivotally mounted between the side plates 5 of a lawnmower 1, being situated in front of the cutting cylinder 3 for the purpose of combing the growth to be cut before the latter is presented to the cutters. The bar 2 is mounted in the forward ends of arms 7A of L-shaped brackets 7 pivoted at 8 to the sideplates of the mower, the extremities of the arms 7B of the brackets being provided with bolts 9 engaging in slots 10 in the side plates. Locking nuts are provided on the outer ends of the bolts 9, and by loosening the nuts the brackets may be pivoted about the pivots 8 to adjust the vertical position of the bar 2. Collars 12, rotatably mounted at each end of the bar 2, are provided with lugs 13 connected by means of coil springs 14 to the bolts 9, and by turning the collars relative to the bar and locking them in the desired position by means of the grub screws 15, the pressure exerted by the tines 4 on the ground may be varied. Front rollers 6 may be provided to take part of the weight of the machine and may be mounted on extensions of the bar 2 as shown in Fig. 1, on the inner sides of the sideplates, or they may be carried in front of the tines.
