Abstract
842,395. Clutches; locking rotary elements. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. Feb. 25, 1957 [Feb. 25, 1956], No. 6318/57. Classes 80 (2) and 80 (4). A positive clutch or detent for the engagement of two relatively rotatable members 5, 7 comprises dog teeth 2, 3 on the members respectively which are adapted to be engaged by axial movement of member 7 on energization of a magnet coil 4 on member 5 or, alternatively, by some fluid-pressure device. Engagement other than in one or a predetermined number of relative positions of the members 5, 7 is prevented by a number of unequally spaced pins 6 on member 5 co-operating with corresponding holes or recesses 8 in the member 7. The holes 8 are somewhat elongated so that after the pins 6 engage therewith a small amount of relative turning between members 5, 7 is permitted to facilitate the tooth engagement. Automatic engagement and disengagement may be provided by a driven star wheel or cam disc actuating a switch for the coil 4. The teeth 2, 3 may be replaced by lugs or claws and a friction synchronizing ring may be arranged between the two members.
