841,912. Cigarette - making machines. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Nov. 22, 1957 [Dec. 4, 1956], No. 36502/57. Class 130. [Also in Group XVI] To prevent tension breakage of a cork or paper band TM as sections T thereof for use in uniting cigarettes and filter mouthpieces are cut by a rotary knife or knives 32 coacting with metal inserts of a suction drum 24 whose surface moves at more than the speed at which the band TM is fed by rollers 16, 18, the band passes over a roller 22 eccentrically mounted on a shaft 48 and belt or chain driven from the knife shaft so as to tend to provide slack in the band at the time of cutting. The band is glued from a reservoir 26 via rollers 28, 20, a scraper 30 being provided. Modifications. The roller 22 may be on an arm, oscillated by a crank and connecting rod from the knife shaft or by a cam, acting positively on the arm or against which the arm is spring loaded.
