Abstract
425,480. Cigarettes; cigarette-making machines. CHANDLER, R. J. A., 58, Holborn Viaduct, London. Sept. 12, 1933, No. 25245. [Class 130] A filter - tip cigarette comprises a wrapped tobacco portion, a filter tip and an outer wrapper enclosing both portions, the combined thickness of the wrappers being preferably equal to that of a normal cigarette paper. Cigarette lengths are fed from the cutter 14 of a continuous rod machine to a belt 16 moving slightly faster than the rod to space the lengths, between which tips are supplied by a grooved roller 19 from a hopper 18. The cigarette lengths and tips are caused to abut on the slower moving wrapping web 27 of rod-forming mechanism 24. The rod is cut and finished cigarettes are delivered at 29 such as by a device described in Specification 420,158. Printing and cork tipping means 25, 26 may be included. In a modification, means for forming a rope of filter material and cutting off tips are arranged adjacent the belt 16. In a further modification, cigarette lengths and tips are fed to compartments 42, 43, Fig. 5 of a hopper and delivered by a grooved roller 45 to the wrapping web 46. An inclined surface 47 causes the lengths and tips to abut.
