[Also in Group XXIII] A cloth for metallographic polishing comprises a surface fabric layer, preferably of raw silk, impregnated or impregnable with diamond dust, and an impervious backing, preferably of polythene, secured to the fabric layer as by heat and pressure. A third layer, of cotton or other fabric, the threads of which preferably run at an angle such as 45 degrees to those of the top layer, may be bonded beneath the impervious layer.
